Malamig ang Pasko
Isn't it sad that the people working in those fancy restaurants never get to enjoy the food they prepare? Those who work in hotels could never enjoy such a luxurious lifestyle? I just want to point out that in this season where gift giving is such a fad, let's not just focus on our friends and relatives. There are a whole of people around us who are just as important, or in fact, even more so than our friends and relatives.
I see people giving extravagant gifts to their peers, then giving their servants a slab of ham. What makes your peers a lot more important than, say, your maid? or your driver? Your maid had to spend Xmas away from their families to help out in your household chores 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If it were up to me, I'd give them the extravagant gifts and give other people the slab of ham.
I'm a hypocrite. I didn't do that. I just talk big.
Alas, forces of practicality and self interest are at work. The moral thing to do always gets lost in the shuffle.
In parting, as the Chrismtas season ends, I leave you with lines from the Eheads song, Fruitcake.
"It's the season for being happy,
But the reason is dead and gone.
If the reason for being happy,
Takes a backseat when the season's done."
